About Bounty & Soul
Bounty & Soul is a grassroots, volunteer-run non-profit dedicated to creating a health and wellness movement in underserved communities in Buncombe County. Our fresh food markets are providing healthy food along with nutrition awareness and health and wellness resources for children, families, individuals, and seniors who may not have access to these resources. We offer our services at a low income senior living facility; a non-profit daycare center; and to residents living in the greater Black Mountain-Swannanoa Valley area.
With 40 percent of food wasted in the U.S. and food insecurity and malnutrition at a national high, Bounty & Soul is keenly aware that we need to bridge that gap in order to restore balance. Bounty & Soul serves as that bridge. Bounty & Soul distributes produce that is re-purposed or salvaged from farmers’ fields and grocery store shelves, as well as grown locally through the Gardens that Give Program. We receive donated fruits and vegetables through partnerships with MANNA FoodBank, Black Mountain Community Garden, and other local growers that allow us to distribute the healthy food to our clients at no cost. We seek funding to purchase additional nutritious necessities such as whole grains, beans, nuts, etc. at low prices. Our participants come to the market and receive enough fresh food to make healthy, cost-effective, nutritious meals for 3-4 days. Bounty & Soul also provides cooking demonstrations, health and wellness classes, and easy to follow, low-budget, delicious recipes in a fun, supportive and loving environment.
